Course description |
This course develops near beginners' knowledge of the morphology and syntax of classical Latin and their skill in reading original Latin texts. The second half of the semester is taken up with the reading of a simple text. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the course successfully will be able by the end of the course to demonstrate in written examination and course work (including weekly quizzes and tutorial exercises):
- a better understanding of the essentials of Latin grammar and syntax;
- an increasing fluency in translating and understanding Latin literary texts;
- an initial awareness of literary critical issues. |

Class work (40%);
one (2-hour) degree exam paper - 60%. |
