Course description |
The course will offer an introduction to Roman Comedy, with detailed study of at least two plays, and will conclude with a brief look at later classicising drama from the 12th century. |

Pre-requisites |
Advanced-level ability in Latin language and literature, equivalent to two years' study at the University of Edinburgh (if uncertain, consult the course organiser).

Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should:-
- be familiar with the way in which Roman comedy developed in its historical and dramatic context;
- have some awareness of the classical background to the development of later medieval drama;
- have read in Latin plays from both the classical and medieval period, with due attention to linguistic and stylistic detail and to literary and dramatic technique. |
Assessment Information
Coursework - 30%; one (2-hour) degree examination - 70%. |
