Course description |
This course will consider the critical issues associated with assessment of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- The purpose of assessment. When and how to assess?
- The assertion that assessment drives learning.
- Techniques for controlling validity, reliability, standardisation and utility.
- What part does formative and summative assessment play in the curriculum?
- What are the merits of scoring, marking, ranking, normative and peer-referenced processes.
- The concepts of competence, capability and performance in professional practice?
- Developing an assessment blue-print

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing the MSc in Clinical Education, an individual will have sufficient knowledge to:
- Describe and discuss contemporary theories and issues in Clinical Education, at a national and international level.
- Recognise, evaluate and make an appropriate response to the governance and policy associated with Clinical Education.
- Exercise a critical appraisal of situations and circumstances pertaining to Clinical Education.
- Recognise, reflect upon and respond to their own educational needs and the needs of others.
- Take a lead responsibility in Clinical Education within their own professional area.
