Course description |
To allow students an opportunity to explore: the physicality, cultural specificity and temporality of objects; the role of material culture in the construction of human groups; the importance of objects in the maintenance of personal, social and cultural identity and to understand that objects are also an outcome of this process. To understand that artefacts not only express social relations but also that they act to establish such relationships.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To provide each student, regardless of his or her discipline within the School, with a useful tool for data collection and analysis and a potential focus for advanced study in which material culture acts as both evidence and exegesis in social science discourse.
