Course description To introduce and guide independent study of current research literature in the area of Developmental Dyslexia and Reading. To examine a variety of methods of investigating reading skills. To contrast different theoretical explanations of how and why developmental dyslexia arises. To encourage critical and analytic thinking.

Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Describe at least one theory of the acquisition of reading skills.
- Understand which dyslexic symptoms are best explained by each of the models of dyslexia described in the course.
- Understand the broad concepts (but not the technical details) of the connectionist approach to describing and explaining dyslexia.
- Understand the contributions made by the different methodological approaches used to investigate dyslexia.
