Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:

! specify a topic of enquiry suitable for the Dissertation and justify its theoretical and practical significance, professional relevance and practical feasibility;
! identify and reflect critically on relevant and up-to-date literature, research reports and other scholarly and professional evidence, with specific reference to the research process used;
! propose a design and strategy for collecting and analysing evidence, which is tailored to the research question and identify the implications of these choices for the status of the evidence and the findings based on it;
! examine critically the potential contribution and limitations of the proposal for theories and issues relevant to the practice and roles of relevant professionals;
! demonstrate that the proposal complies with the relevant ethical guidelines;
! draw up a practicable plan and timetable for collecting evidence and writing up the Dissertation including (where applicable) drafts of data collection instruments such as questionnaires, interview schedules etc.
Assessment Information
The Dissertation itself will normally be in the region 12000 words. It may incorporate, either directly or after amendment, a substantial part of the material contained in the proposal. The course member will demonstrate an ability to satisfy the following assessment criteria as set out iin the Guide to the Dissertation.
