Course description |
The course aims to provide students with an introduction to early modern Scottish history, between about 1500 and 1750. Lecturing focuses on five themes: Politics, Religion, Government, Economy & Society, and Culture. Weekly tutorials, which supplement the lectures, give opportunities to discuss primary documents and varied scholarly interpretations. The course has a strong comparative element, encouraging students to reflect on early modern Scotland's place in its British and European contexts.
