Course description The course aims to provide students with an opportunity to undertake supervised reading in a particular topic area relevant to the overall aims of the student's MSc programme. The topic will be selected, in agreement with the MSc Director and the chosen supervisor, to complement but not reproduce the material and approaches covered in one or more of the other courses taken by the student, either by filling a gap in the material so covered, or by pursuing a particular subject or approach in significantly greater depth than on other courses.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students completing the supervised reading course will be expected:

- to possess a detailed understanding of a substantial body of literature on a topic relevant to the overall aims of the MSc programme for which they are registered, and which has not been addressed in the same breadth or depth of detail in other courses taken by that student
- to be able to reflect critically on the empirical and theoretical content of that body of literature, and to relate it to topics or approaches covered in other courses taken by that student
