Course description An introduction to philosophical theology and some issues in the philosophy of religion, especially the question of how to inquire into 'God' philosophically. Lectures, seminars and set texts in this course treat a range of Christian and Jewish philosophers from Plato to the Enlightenment.

Pre-requisites Visiting students should usually have at least 1 introductory level Divinity/Religious Studies course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. We will only consider University/College level courses.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the main texts set for tutorials; (2) rehearse principal arguments on the main themes; (3) identify points of agreement and disagreement between philosophers and between their interpreters; (4) identify more general problems in the philosophical treatment of questions about God.
Assessment Information
2000-word Book Review (20%);
2000-word Essay (20%);
Degree Exam (60%).
In order to pass this course, you must obtain a minimum of 40% in each of the above assessed components.
