Course description |
This module examines two broad themes: building fabric and environment. Building on the Stage 1 modules Technology and Environment: Principles, and Architectural Design: Assembly, the module develops skills and abilities to assess and analyse buildings in terms of their construction, structural systems and environmental performance. The module pays particular attention to the relationship between structure, construction and materials in the context of architectural design. The module also
examines the application of sustainable building practices, including qualitative and quantitative
assessments of the environmental performance and structural behaviour of architecture.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate:
1. Capacity to recognise, formulate and apply key
structural and environmental principles in architectural design contexts;
2. Understanding of these principles with respect to
human comfort and well-being, strategies for a sustainable future, the impact of the building processes on the natural world, material and assembly processes;
3. Communicating an understanding of the relationship between building fabric, structure and environmental performance in architectural design.
