Course description This course is only available to University of Edinburgh students who are enrolled on the Structural Engineering with Architecture, undergraduate, degree.

This module introduces the technological and
environmental aspects of architectural design. It focuses on the key concepts which underpin the design of structural and environmental systems. It is also concerned with the use of materials in architecture. The module emphasizes the links between architectural design, architectural technology and sustainability and a wider concern for the global environment.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate:
1. Understanding of key concepts in the physical
behaviour of structural and environmental systems and their application in architecture;
2. Appreciation of the integral nature of structural
and environmental systems to the development of
architectural designs;
3. Appreciation of the global context of sustainability
and its relationship to and interaction with the practice of architecture.
Assessment Information
Learning outcomes are assessed by written reports and written examination.
