Course description This module is undertaken by students who are on Placement. It gives an opportunity to study a contemporary building either through documents available in practice, or by study in the architectural press/and a building visit. The module is offered via WebCT/student portal distance learning.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The module AIMS to: 1. Offer opportunities to examine the integration of the following six criteria in either a published public building or a building designed by the student&©s Placement office: Structure; Construction; Services; Lighting and Acoustics; Building Regulations, Health, Safety and Inclusive.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate:
1. Understanding of the integration of the above criteria in a coherent architectural design;
2. Research skills in the context of architectural practice;
3. Ability to use visual and written communication methods and appropriate media to clearly and effectively convey and critically appraise design ideas and proposals.

Learning outcomes are assess by essay coursework (100%)

This course is taught jointly with Edinburgh College of Art. Students will have access to both campuses and may be located in studios at either institution.
This course will be assessed in accordance with The Assessment Regulations of Edinburgh College of Art
