Course description In this course, students develop an understanding of the procedures and the impact of the construction stage of the Civil Engineering Process. The course is structured to introduce and expose the students to modern construction practice, and to the design of urban drainage systems. The students are introduced to the methods in which construction projects, including urban drainage systems, are undertaken and the ways in which they are planned and managed, taking into account environmental, and quality issues.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Environmental Engineering 3 (CIVE09020) AND Structural Form, Function and Design Philosophy 3 (CIVE09025) AND Fire Safety Engineering 3 (CIVE09023)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
? understand and plan for common construction processes;
? understand the variety of resources used in these processes;
? plan for construction projects in terms of the activities and resources used;
? appreciate the mechanisms of managing the different types of personnel on construction projects;
? evaluate alternatives and design a solution to an urban drainage problem requiring storage.
