Course description This course will introduce students to the concept of early intervention in the field of child and adolescent mental health differentiating between that which occurs early in the life cycle and intervention early in the problem cycle. Students will be encouraged to explore critically the policy context in support of early intervention for this client group and the evidence base for it. There will be a particular focus on the early years of life. Students will develop an understanding of what makes these years critical to later development through consideration of risk and protective factors in social, psychological and physical domains.

Students will be familiar with the core developmental and clinical models of early years and early interventions and will be able to critically evaluate their conceptual and empirical basis.
