| Course description |
This course provides students with opportunities to study a range of debates in the literature concerned with counselling and psychotherapy. These include debates about: approaches to clinical practice with particular population groups and/or specific conditions (e.g. children and young people, trauma); theoretical and philosophical influences (e.g. neuroscience, narrative approaches); clinical settings (e.g. primary care, voluntary sector); and contextual issues (e.g. professionalisation, the rise of therapy cultures). The topics covered in any one delivery will be finalised in negotiation with course participants. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to;
- identify and conceptualise debates influencing practice, provision and training in counselling and psychotherapy
- critically assess and synthesise the relevance of research and scholarship on specific for the practice and provision of counselling and psychotherapy
- critically assess different disciplinary perspectives on debates about counselling and psychotherapy
- formulate research questions on specific topics of debate in counselling and psychotherapy
