This course is designed to introduce students to key debates about the related themes of ethics, boundaries and supervision in the helping professions. Codes of ethics will be discussed in relation to ethical issues, dilemmas and difficulties. Understandings and theories of boundaries within the person-centred approach and psychodynamic perspectives will be explored and theories and approaches used in supervision will also be examined. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- To consider ethical issues as presented from practice in relation to professional codes for good practice
- To develop a critical understanding of boundaries in helping relationships
- To articulate the key features of the supervision relationship and contract from the point of view of both supervisor and supervisee

Assessment Information
| Using relevant theory from psychodynamic perspectives and the person-centred approach, the student will write an illustrated, reflective essay on ethical, supervision and boundary issues, using examples from their experience of the listening practice on the course and their personal and professional experience outside the course. (4000-5000 words) |
