Course description This course focuses on, and theorises, a level of cummunication that is almost never theorised, although it is alluded to in vernacular conversation. eg 'the energy in the room' or 'the atmosphere was dead'. It is an inevitable and important aspect of every relationship, including the therapeutic relationship. As such it is important that therapists are aware of it and are able to reflect upon its impact on the therapeutic relationship. The aim is to help students develop an analytic awareness of the level of communication that happens as counsellor and client extend and withdraw at a very subtle level.
