Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The student should be able to:
- understand different pedagogical practices;
- analyse curricular structure and change, and purposes and forms of assessment;
- understand current equality and values debates, relationship between social divisions and achievement, inclusion;
- [for ITE students] undertake course and lesson planning, including assessment;
- use literature, observation and theory to reflect on/justify/ critique practice.
Assessment Information
A single assessment, based on two activities, equally weighted:
1) Group oral presentation on an issue in Teaching and Learning
2) Individual narrative response to Social Justice case study (e.g. discussing possible outcomes) and theoretical analysis of the situation (1500 words)
As a course requirement, students will be expected to maintain a reflective commentary on their reading, reflection, responses to lectures, and observations. In extreme cases, to resolve a problem in group assessment, this reflective commentary, a short viva, and/or some writing under supervision may be used as supplementary evidence in reaching a final grade. Students will be required to gain a final (aggregate) mark of at least 40% to pass the course, in accordance with the common marking scheme. Students will also be required to gain a minimum of 30% on each task.
