Course description Regardless of the professional domain in which students may ultimately operate, certain key, transferable skills are critical for effective performance. Students will be taught how to search for information efficiently and will examine approaches to communicate information convincingly in a variety of professional settings (written, meetings and formal presentations). Students will also be required to reflect on their own intended professional destination and analyse the skills and competencies required to operate successfully against which they will be required to plan their own continuing professional development.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the unit, students will be able to:

1. Analyse and evaluate key considerations in the oral communication of information in relevant professional settings.
2. Determine approaches to enhance the effectiveness of written work in contrasting styles.
3. Explain appropriate systems for managing research projects.
4. Identify professional competencies and skills and develop personal CPD plans.

Task 1
Critical appraisal of a professional style presentation (2000 words approx.) (50%)

Task 2
Written project on data and library search strategies and techniques. (2000 words) (50%)

Submission date will be set at the start of the module and will normally be at the end of the relevant assessment period.
