Course description This module is a post-experience course aimed at teachers and other professional workers in education who wish to study the applications and implications of new technology. It forms part of the Modular Masters Scheme of courses offered by the School of Education. This module is optional for the MEd, Diploma and Certificate in Information Technology and Education.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module course members will be able to:
(1) understand how certain IT software tools may be used to improve effectiveness and efficiency
(2) select appropriate IT products for a given application.
(3) plan, implement and evaluate selected applications.
(4) relate IT research findings to their own professional context.
(5) describe the trends in computer hardware and software and suggest ways in which their own profession may be affected.
Assessment Information
The module is assessed on an A-F scale using a combination of essays and practical tasks.
Course members will demonstrate their ability to use, apply and evaluate selected tools and techniques encountered in the module by an assignment equivalent to 5000 words. The assessment will evaluate the candidate's understanding of the context of the module and will be assessed against the five learning outcomes. The assessment will require candidates to have a theoretical understanding of the issues supported by practical understanding that is derived from their own professional context. In order to demonstrate an understanding of practical skills, the assignment will be constructed to enable candidates to submit an assignment which may be in two parts one of which concentrates on practical skills.
The assignment will be accompanied by a short portfolio of at activities undertaken during the module. The portfolio will represent 30% of the total mark.
