| Course description |
This course is a constituent part of the Immunology Honours project. During the first two weeks of the course there will be lectures, demonstrations and discussion sessions on commonly used immunological techniques, such as ELISA, Flow cytometry and FACS sorting, in vivo adoptive transfer, Western blots, immunoprecipitation. This will be augmented by the reading/discussion of papers illustrating the use of certain techniques (in particular, flow cytometry) and a session (in working groups) based around the solution of technical/experimental planning problems. In course assessment will take the form of questions set on a research paper given to students 24 hours previously and designed to probe practical knowledge and the ability to interpret results. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| A good understanding of current immunological techniques. Attainment of advanced skills in reading and understanding the primary literature, especially in relation to ecperimental techniques. Ability to interpret results, summarise techniques and data. Development of scientific problem solving skills. |
