Course description An introduction to the law of contract and unjustified enrichment in Scotland, set in the wider context of the concepts of obligations and personal rights. The course covers formation, content, validity and breach of contract, and considers when enrichments by transfer, imposition and taking may be reversed as legally unjustified.

Pre-requisites Co-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students also take Legal Reasoning and Legal System (LAWS08106)
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements Legal Reasoning and Legal System is a COMPULSORY co-requisite for Contract and Unjustified Enrichment - 'recommended' is in place as a work around to allow course enrolments to go ahead.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire a basic knowledge of the law of contract and unjustified enrichment, and the leading authorities in these branches of law, together with a basic understanding of the legal concepts of obligation and personal rights.

The tutorial programme will develop legal reasoning skills in relation to problem situations, and students will be able to deploy these skills both orally and in writing.
Assessment Information
One essay of 500 words [10%]
One in-tutorial mooting exercise [10%]
One 2-hour degree exam, of which half will take the form of MCQs [80%]

Resit exam consitutes 100% of final mark in case of resit.
