An introduction to commercial law as it is in force in Scotland, some of which is also applicable at the UK level and EU levels. Topics covered include secured transactions, insolvency, insurance, negotiable instruments and aspects of international sales. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the law of commerce as it is in force in Scotland. The objectives are to provide members of the class with a basic knowledge of the subject, set in its business and economic context, and to develop, through a tutorial programme, powers of reasoning about, and skills in analysing, factual situations in terms of commercial law, with a view to advising on and writing about problems involving that branch of law. Students should be able to develop their oral and written skills in legal analysis and debate. The course is one that is normally taken in the second year of the LLB, and it builds on the knowledge and skills developed in the first year in such courses as Contract. The topics covered are necessary for admission to the legal profession in Sotland, so that the course is intended to play a part not only in the academic development of students but also in their professional formation. |
Assessment Information
| One final two-hour examination (100%). 60% of marks are based on a pre-seen problem question covering multiple aspects of the course distributed in advance of the examination. The question can be varied in certain respects for the examination. The remaining 40% of marks would be based on answers to an unseen problem question. Students would have a chioce of 2 or more problem questions. |
