Course description An introduction to the law of business entities as it is in force in Scotland, some of which is also applicable at the UK level and EU levels.

Topics covered include: (i) agency (including commercial agents); (ii)partnership; (iii) limited liability partnerships; (iv) companies.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Legal Reasoning and Legal System (LAWS08106)

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements All students taking this course should also have taken Legal Reasoning and Legal System U02831, although a pass in that course is not essential, provided that it is being retaken.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the law of business entities as it is in force in Scotland, with reference to applicable UK and EU law.

The objectives of the course are to provide members of the class with a basic knowledge of the subject, set in its appropriate business and economic context, and to develop, through a tutorial programme, powers of reasoning about, and skills in analysing, factual, theoretical and practical situations in terms of business entities, with a view to advising on and writing about problems involving this branch of the law.

Students should also be able to answer multiple choice questions designed to test knowledge learnt and its application.
Assessment Information
A two-hour examination, 50% of which MCQ.
Visiting Student Variant Assessment
This course will be assessed by an essay worth 100% of the final mark. This is to be submitted at the end of the first semester.
