Course description This course consists of 14 one-hour lectures and 6 one-hour tutorial/discussion/presentation sessions. It focuses upon the interactions between the geochemical environment and the health of humans, wildlife and plants. There is particular emphasis on the influence of biogeochemical speciation upon the sources, uptake, effects, transformations and removal of the chemical elements (eg. aluminium, antimony, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, fluorine, iodine, lead, mercury, phosphorus, selenium and zinc)under a variety of conditions in a range of natural and anthropogenically contaminated environments.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Possession of fundamental knowledge and understanding of the environmental geochemistry of chemical elements and their influences upon health.
- Ability to interpret relevant environmental data in the context of exposure and health.
- Ability to critically appraise and articulate relevant research literature and to outline future plausible research directions in the field of geochemistry and health.
