Course description This is an optional Fourth Year half-course, focusing on gender issues in sport and recreation management. Gender roles in sport and recreation organisations cannot be considered in isolation from interrelated social, cultural and political changes in society that have occurred since the "second wave" of feminism in the 1970's and the development of theoretical feminist perspectives. This half-course will examine the increasing body of empirical research that addresses a range of issues concerning women in organisations and women as managers. It will analyse continuity and change in a range of sport and recreation organisations in the context of the feminist critiques of "mainstream", androcentric approaches to management.
