Notes:Although Logic 1 is not a compulsory course for single-honours philosophy students it is strongly recommended, particularly for students who think that they might go on to study philosophy at postgraduate level. It is also a prerequisite for some honours-level philosophy courses. If you choose not to take Logic 1 this year you will have the option to take it in your second year. Select a minimum of 0 credits and maximum of 40 credits from the following School Collection: 'School collection schedule A to Q, T and W level 7 or 8' (SCH_A-Q/T/W_7/8) , as available. |

Where this is taken in Scottish Literature, a 20 credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion unit in the fourth year. Where this is taken in Philosophy, students must take the Philosophy Dissertation Preparation Course in their 3rd years and then have two options in their 4th years: (i) to take two further option courses in philosophy and be examined on 5000 word essays for each course, or (ii) to register for the dissertation completion course and write one 8000 word essay on a topic to be arranged with the department. All students who take the dissertation in philosophy must complete the Philosophy Dissertation course in year 3.
