Course descriptionThe course consists of two modules: Module 3: The Ages of Metal - the later prehistoric archaeology of Scotland. Module 4: Archaeology into History - Romans, Britons, Picts, and Scots - the archaeology of the early historic period and the formation of the Kingdom of Scotland. Students attending this courses will be expected to participate on two Saturday field trips or visits, for which a moderate charge will be made.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
This course aims to provide students with a wide-ranging and critical introduction to the range of pre-medieval archaeological remains within Scotland and to the interpretation of these remains. The basic principles and methods of archaeological approaches will be introduced in so far as they are appropriate to the material discussed.
Assessment Information
One portfolio of work consisting of reports from tutorials, museum visit and one Saturday field trip. Portfolio = 40%, degree exam (April/May) = 60% with a minimum grade E in degree exam.
