| Course description | Indicative course content 
The development of GIS; data visualisation; GIS for decision making; spatial data & spatial data models; geo-referencing; data sources & their input into GIS; data quality control; GIS analysis; cartographic modelling; modelling with GIS; information extraction from satellite imagery & aerial photographs; GIS applications in the natural environment. Building, displaying & interpreting map data; database & location query; site selection; distance & context operators, macro modelling. 
 
Aims of course 
1 To provide a substantial introduction to GIS to enable both a theoretical understanding of the subject and the acquisition of practical skills.
