An extended, reflective essay derived form personally directed research and readings on an aspect of contemporary practice and theory. Tutored remotely by placement tutor and presented to peers and staff at the end of the professional placement period.

Aims of course
1 To develop a critical understanding of the theories, principles and techniques as evidenced through contemporary design precedents.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. undertake a research project with defined outcomes on aspects of contemporary practice through personal investigation and directed readings.
2. critically define, compare and analyse complex concepts, problems and issues addressed by aspects of contemporary practice.
3. demonstrate originality & creativity in dealing with professional issues and data.
