| Course description | PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS OWNED AND ADMINISTRATED BY ECA 
Synopsis  
 Diploma students are required to produce a written  
text of around 6,000 words in the form of an article for  
a refereed journal. It must inform their knowledge of  
architecture and would typically deal with social,  
cultural, historical, technical issues etc. Students are  
also required to give verbal presentation through  
seminars for feedback and exchange of views. 
 
Aims of Module 
 
1.	To gain understanding of a specialist subject area which is self selected. 
2.	To provide an opportunity for research and investigation. 
3.	To improve abilities in analysis, preparing coherent arguments and informed critical judgements. 
4.	To further develop abilities in producing a substantial piece of academic writing .

By undertaking the Diploma in Architecture Extended Essay, the student will be expected to demonstrate: 
 
1. an ability to plan and execute a substantial research project  
2. the application of critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation to complex issues which require informed/critical judgements. 
3. skills in presenting a written piece of work to a given layout and format and is consistently clear and coherent in its literary style |
