Course descriptionPLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS DELIVERED BY DISTANCE LEARNING AND OWNED AND ADMINISTRATED BY HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY. MODULE LEADER TO BE CONFIRMED. STUDENT EFFORT HOURS 50.

The overall aim of the module is to give graduates a foundation for an understanding of the Built Environment context for elective Level 10 and 11 modules taken as an option on the Master of Architecture course at Edinburgh School of Architecture. This module is to be completed in addition to any of the elective modules offered by HWU and selected by a student on the MArch Programme.

The learner will be able to:
? Describe the way in which the construction industry organises itself
? Understand the roles of professionals within the Construction Industry
? Evaluate and appraise the role of the existing built environment
? Understand the global perspective of sustainable development for the construction industry

? Basic skills in report writing, analysis and evaluation of construction industry literature
? An awareness of industry legislation and regulatory frameworks
? Appreciation of the role of existing buildings
