Course descriptionStudents will develop enhanced skills in working with materials and concepts related to applied design, which may include jewellery, textiles and glass. Using drawing and other appropriate methods of research, students will develop ideas for designing and making a piece or series of pieces.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Display a considered approach to research as it underpins individual design practice
2. Demonstrate competence and confidence in the handling of design media to develop individual project(s)
3. Show competence and a considered approach to the selection and presentation of work for assessment at this level

Additional Information
Academic description This Course allows students to build on existing skills to achieve a high level of competence in the creation of designed objects. Underpinning the making skills is research drawing and other means of developing ideas prior to making finished works. This aspect of the course is seen as of equal importance to the demonstration of good making skills.
Syllabus Students will undertake study in one design discipline, utilising specialist workshops where necessary and attending group crits and tutorials in order to develop the research and developmental process.
Transferable skills skills in research and development of ideas; the ability to undertake self generated projects; making skills, practical skills in numeracy, planning and designing, selection and presentation
Reading list A reading list appropriate to the individual student project will be developed
Study Abroad Not entered
Study Pattern Students will undertake 200 hours of study of which 50 will be Contact hours and 50 Directed study. The remaining 100 hours will allow students to undertake self directed study.
