Course descriptionOrganisation, growth and interactions of bacterial cells. Interactions of microorganisms with higher organisms. Viruses, viral transformation and oncogenesis. Cell interactions in multicellular organisms: cell diversity, differentiation and growth; tissue organisation and cell communication. Organisation of the mammalian immune system. Innate and acquired immunity. Antibodies. Applications of microbial and immunological techniques.

Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed Molecules, Genes and Cells 1 (BILG08015) AND The Dynamic Cell 2 (BILG08009)

Basic knowledge of the biology of bacteria, viruses and fungi, mammalian tissue orgainisation, and the mammalian immune system.
