| Course description | Indicative course content
A variety of research methodologies and approaches will be discussed, along with the possible aims and outcomes different approaches may lead to. The broad themes of the course are designed to encourage you to critically re-examine the production, distribution and consumption of your work. A key objective of the course is to promote innovative, experimental and ambitious research that relates to academic study and creative practice at the forefront of your discipline.
Aims of course
1 To introduce you to a variety of research methods appropriate to study in art and design at postgraduate level and generate an awareness of the links between contexts, theory, practice and creative post-graduate research.
2 To encourage interdisciplinary approaches and an enthusiasm for theoretical and practical experimentation based on rigorous research skills.
3 To enhance your skills of critical analysis and evaluation and allow you to deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Show a critical understanding of two or more innovative research methods that you reason are appropriate to your own practice.
2. Demonstrate in the form of a Research Proposal, how you will review, restructure and develop your practice in ways that are informed by original and creative research.
3. Display imagination, resourcefulness and substantial initiative in the communication of your planned research. |
