Course descriptionThis course will provide students with an introduction to the skills and methods appropriate to cultural research and critical media practice. With a focus on the analysis of embodied and lived cultures the course introduces a range of research methods from across the disciplines of cultural geography, cultural anthropology, cultural and media studies. Each approach offers a critical insight into the value of fieldwork experiences and there subsequent communication through writing and practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will:
-have an understanding of the diverse methods appropriate to the study of media forms and culture
-be able to understand the different approaches image production
-be able to critically analyse and generate media representations, and to be able to communicate such an analysis to an audience
-be able to formulate a research proposal with appropriate research method
Assessment Information
Assessment will be on a pass/fail basis based on the presentation (during week 7) and submission of a research proposal to be submitted by the end of Semester 2.
