Course descriptionThis course provides an overall understanding of the needs, contexts and processes of top-level decision-making for businesses working in an international context (multinational corporations in particular), and some useful approaches to analysing them. The course highlights and analyses the strategic choices (and implementation approaches and methods) open to managements faced with complex international business opportunities and threats.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Subject specific knowledge, understanding and skills
On completion of the course students will be expected to have acquired:
&· Understanding of the complexity of strategic management.
&· Understanding of the traditional approaches of strategic analysis.
&· Knowledge of the tools of strategy analysis and their limitations.
&· Understanding of the current issues being faced by managers in developing their international businesses
&· Understanding of the importance and dynamics of the world trading system for economic development and international business
&· Understanding of why enterprises choose to expand operations across national boundaries
&· Knowledge about the alternative strategies enterprises may adopt to exploit overseas markets
&· The ability to use strategic management concepts and approaches to produce persuasive conclusions about firms.

Cognitive abilities and non-subject specific skills
On completion of the course work students should be able to:
&· Manage and analyse relevant information about firms in a clear, sound and explicit way.
&· Work in groups
&· Communicate analyses and conclusions clearly and persuasively in presentations

On completion of the course work students should have:
&· Learned the dynamic process of argumentation for a senior-management type decision
&· Demonstrated their ability to present at a senior level
&· Demonstrated their ability to source and collect material relevant to the topic
