Indicative course content
This course introduces you to key concepts and approaches used in the study of visual culture. During your first year you will explore and apply a variety of critical approaches to analyse visual culture. Through a range of assignments you will test, apply and communicate your ideas in a clear, cogent manner.

Aims of course
1 Introduce and establish key concepts and theories in visual culture.
2 Develop an awareness of, and ability to, select and use a range of appropriate research methods.
3 Foster critical enquiry that leads to the visual, verbal and written communication of ideas in an analytical manner.

1. RESEARCH: Use a variety of appropriate critical approaches to show a broad understanding of visual images, artefacts, built environments and texts
2. ANALYSE: Demonstrate an applied knowledge of the main theories of visual culture
3. COMMUNICATE: Convey pertinent ideas using appropriate and coherent formats
