Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The main learning objective of this course is to develop the skills required when making presentations, making decisions, self-presentation in interviews and working in groups. This course consists of three components which draw on and develop different techniques and skills. The enterprise initiative will give students the chance to solve a problem set in a professional level context which requires them to make judgements where data/information is limited and/or sourced from a number of locations. The student seminar series and accompanying essay involves the development of an in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of one specific area of the earth sciences and gives students the opportunity to practise making formal presentations and communicating with informed audiences and professional level peers. In the twenty-four hour essay students will synthesize their understanding on a major theme of topical interest in the earth sciences and present a detailed and critical understanding of the principal theories which are associated with this theme. |
