Course descriptionThe course consists of a series of 24 thematic lectures primarily relating to "Solid Earth Processes". The course develops understanding of magmatic and metamorphic processes including an evlation of the Archaen. The course includes a component on the origin and evolution of life and exceptional faunas.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The main learning outcome of this course is a knowledge that integrates the magmatic, structural, metamorphic, sedimentary and geophysical features and concepts reflecting the operation of major tectonic processes and environments on Earth. Appreciation for the relative roles of periodic, cyclical and irreversible processes in shaping the Earth through time as well as enhancement of transferable skills in written and oral format is anticipated. Earth Evolution B differs from Earth Evolution A by providing a deep-level, hard-rock-orientated view of the Earth as well as a discussion of the origin and evolution of life and an introduction to planetary geology. Students are actively encouraged to extensively read around the subject and will therefore be able to offer professional level insights as well as being able to critically review and consolidate knowledge. In the exam assessment students apply their knowledge in ways not directly addressed during the course and display an ability to solve professional level problems with originality and creativity.
