| Course description | The course extends the coverage of econometric techniques developed in Essentials of Econometrics and illustrates techniques with applications in a variety of economic contexts. Techniques covered are likely to include: nonlinear regression models; qualitative response models; panel data regression models; dynamic econometric models; simultaneous equation models; time series econometric models. Possible applications include: production functions; home ownership; auditing fees; hyperinflation; dairy prices; demand for money; macroeconomic time series; and purchasing power parity. Students will be expected to carry out their own modelling and estimation, developing skills frequently expected of contemporary economics graduates in a wide variety of contexts. Exercise sheets and computer laboratory usage are integrated with the lecture material, and play a very important part in the learning process. The course culminates in an assessed project, in which, given a range of topics and appropriate databases, students are required to undertake their own modelling, estimation, evaluation and reporting. |

| Pre-requisites | Visiting students should usually have at least 3 Economics courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. This MUST INCLUDE courses in both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. We will only consider University/College level courses. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| After successful completion of this course students will have developed their skills of critical analysis and assessment of empirical economics results, how to diagnose and address estimation problems and to carry out independent empirical investigations. |
Assessment Information
| A 2 hour degree examination in April/May (60%), a project (30%) and a 1.5hr class exam in Week 8 (10%). The degree examination must be passed in order to pass the course, where the degree exam is failed the final mark recorded for the course will be the degree exam mark. |
