Course descriptionThe focus of this half course is on nature and role of core Physical Education in the Secondary Physical Education curriculum. Students will be introduced to concepts surrounding core Physical Education and how this co-exists with certificated Physical Education. The aims of the core Physical Education will be considered along with the implications of how there are generated given the absence of official arrangements. The potential of core Physical Education to contribute to pupils' experience will be examined with specific reference to the National Priorities in Education (SEES, 2000). Models of curricula that could be employed in Physical Education will be studied and students will take part in practical exemplar sessions of these models.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Physical Education Curriculum 1 (EDUA08009) AND Physical Education Curriculum 2 (EDUA08010) AND Physical Education Curriculum 3 (EDUU10009)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this 20 credit course students will be able to:-
1. Appreciate the manner in which Physical Education contributes to the attainment of the National Priorities in Education.
2. Appreciate the way in which content in a range of physical activities suitable for use in a 12 week placement in a secondary school can be used to achieve a broad range of goals that are consistent with the National Priorities in education.
3. Evaluate their professional practice in relation to their informed critique of the SITE criteria.
Assessment Information
Students will be required to submit one summative assessment task of 2000 words. This constitutes the overall mark and grade to be awarded for the 20 credit course in PE 4A.
