| Course description | The course offers the opportunity to explore a variety of online assessment systems, both hands on and in a more theoretical context. By online assessment systems the intention is to focus quite specifically on systems which both deliver and mark assignments, other technology tools which can be part of an assessment process (such as optical mark processing) are not included. The course is assessed via a short practical project which requires students to design and implement an example of online assessment.
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the opportunity to engage with online assessment and the issues it raises, both practically and theoretically. It will provide the opportunity for participants to relate what they learn through the interactions and activities of the course to their own context, discipline or institution. The course is aimed at instructors, tutors or teachers who have an interest in online assessment and who would like to engage more deeply with aspects of the topic. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the participants will be able to:
critically evaluate the potential benefits of and barriers to the use of online assessment
match online assessment applications to appropriate learning contexts
design and evaluate their own online assessments |
Assessment Information
| Assessment is based on a project report. 50% of the marks will be awarded for an assessment design, and 50% will be awarded for a reflective commentary on the design. |
