Course descriptionThis course focuses on the social and political history of the Italian colonial experience (1880s-1940s). It will enable students to explore some key issues in modern Italian history, including:
- the history of Italian imperialism in the Liberal and Fascist periods
- the creation of an Italian national identity in the late 19th century;
- class and gender relations in late 19th- early 20th century Italy;
- Fascism, its expansionist policy and its racial policies.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will have not only a good knowledge of Italian colonial history, but also a better understanding of Italian social and political history from the 1880s throughout the 1940s. They will also have improved their research skills, their ability to make oral presentations and their writing skills.
