Course descriptionThe course will begin with a study of the early Ibsen, tracing, inter alia, his connections with and development away from National Romanticism. It moves on to the critic Georg Brandes and assesses the tenets of his call for a modern turn in literature. Examples of Ibsen's and Strindberg's Realist and Naturalist drama will then be discussed in the light of Brandesian and other critical ideas.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Danish Language 2 (ELCS08008) OR Norwegian Language 2 (ELCS08011) OR Swedish Language 2 (ELCS08013)
