| Course description | This course provides a framework on which later courses can build. The module will comprise 5 topics:
- Cardiovascular physiology
- Respiratory physiology
- Fluid homeostasis and the kidney
- Inflammation
- Immunology
Within these subject areas, specific examples will be chosen to illustrate key areas of relevance to equine husbandry, performance and medicine. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Understand the principles of cardiovascular physiology;
Understand the principles of respiratory physiology;
Be aware of the key issues in fluid homeostasis as applied to equine medicine;
Be able to explain the causes and mechanisms of inflammation;
Grasp the overall concept of immunology;
Be able to critique current research in these areas. |
