Course descriptionThis programme is designed ensure that student are equipped with the skills and tools necessary for their Masters dissertation. It will revise and expand on the introductory module in year 1, offers a further review of library services, and discuss how to conduct a systematic review. It will introduce students to IT tools for data management, statistics, and referencing and give further tuition on writing skills specifically geared towards dissertation writing.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the course the candidate should be equipped with the basic knowledge and tools to allow them to commence their dissertation.

The student should:
&· Have a reasonable level of statistics knowledge sufficient to conduct preliminary data analyses
&· Be familiar with IT software that will facilitate data management, statistical analysis and referencing
&· Understand how to conduct a systematic review of the literature
&· Understand the principles of evidence based medicine
Understand the principles behind planning and conducting a research study
Assessment Information
This module will be assessed as part of the assessment of the year 3 dissertation.
