Course descriptionArabic for Beginners at Honours Level (a) is an elementary course in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). It is worth 20 credits and runs in Semester 1 only. No previous knowledge of Arabic is required for entry to the course.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to introduce students to elementary features of Modern Standard Arabic. Students are taught how to read and write the Arabic script and are introduced to some of the main features of Arabic grammar and some basic vocabulary.
Assessment Information
Class work - 10% (regular written exercises and tests)
Examinations- 90% (80% of this examination mark is awarded for the written paper, and 20% for the oral)
