Course descriptionThis is an option course for the MSc Dementia: International Experience, Policy and Practice. It is also available as a standalone CPD course.

This course will be delivered entirely online.

The course aims to support students to develop an enhanced understanding of dementia in people with an intellectual disability. It will include international perspectives on research, policy and practice.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Critical understanding of the historical context of people with an intellectual disability.
2. Appreciation of the similarities and differences in dementia and dementia care experienced by people with an intellectual disability and by the general population.
3. An analysis of models of care for people with an intellectual disability and dementia.
4. Appreciation of research, policy and practical evidence of support for people with an intellectual disability and dementia, with an awareness of gaps in literature.
Assessment Information
There are three forms of assessment for this course
Contribution to discussion forum at intervals during the course 20%
Development of an e-portfolio. E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the user's abilities and platforms for self-expression and can include text, electronic files, multimedia, blog entries, self reflection or hyperlinks. This will have an element of both developmental and reflective learning 40%
An end of course essay, 2000 $ú 2500 words 40%
