Course descriptionThe principal aims and objectives of the course are to consider and analyse the forms of action related to the Court of Justice of the European Union. This involves consideration of the structure of and procedure before the Court, leading to in-depth analysis of forms of action before the Court. The jurisdiction of the Court will be assessed against particular thematic backdrops, including the notion of effective judicial protection and the legitimate functions of courts in polity-building and polity-management. The complex relationship between the Court of Justice and national courts will also be explored.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of the forms of action associated with European Union law and of the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice more broadly. The course also aims to consolidate and deepen skills involved in legal research of Community and Union law acquired through undergraduate studies, including access to and use of Internet resources; to build on and develop skills of critical analysis and legal problem-solving; and to develop oral and written expression via seminar participation and essay preparation.
